Cough Button is a creative troika dedicated to exploring the narrative and sonic possibilities of mixing radio transmissions into live performance and installation. Cough Button consists of Aliza Simons, Lynn Levy, & Dave Ruder.

To date, they have created one installation and have presented selections from their first live piece. The live piece, entitled To Scale, focuses on the complimentary and conflicting realities of an architect and the 2D "scalies" he creates to populate his models. In the performance of the piece, sound is delpoyed through the space in several fashions: acoustically, over radios, and over the PA system. The first four scenes of To Scale were performed as part of Experiments in Opera at Roulette on May 10th, 2012 (performers: Lea Bertucci, Lainie Fefferman, Vasu Panicker, Paul Pinto, Brian Rady, Aliza Simons, Karen Waltuch, and Dylan Widjiono). Here's a little press about the show. Look for further excerpts from To Scale in the future!

Cough Button (self-titled) is a site-specific installation commissioned by Inside Lives in Fall 2011. Three miniature Exitrip FM transmitters (wrapped in red paper) broadcasted prerecorded narratives and sound collage. The transmitters were positioned inside of a stairwell and FM radios were able to pick up the audio transmissions. The Exitrip transmitters were made by Ed Bear and Lea Bertucci.
