the news around here:

8:06pm, January 17th 2012.

There's been a redesign afoot, hence the long time between updates. Apologies.

Some things you might note: There's a tab to the right for Cough Button, my collaborative effort with Lynn Levy & Aliza Simons. We've got some exciting stuff afoot! Also, a renewed focus on the WHY LIE? project involves posting all 100(+) scores as freely usable open source music generators. Varispeed, Sweat Lodge, & Why Lie? (the band) are also getting new web presences. So take a peak if you haven't in a while.

As for the basics, Sweat Lodge things are ongoing, with the very rad SweaTronics on January 28th. I'm collaborating with PPL on Nature Fetish, which will get its first showing on January 27th. Gamelan Kusuma Laras is up to some exciting stuff in March at the Asia Society. And I'm making a lot of websites!

11:32am, Sunday 11/21/11

Transitioning somewhat. The month of Robert Ashley's music is alomst complete, with Varispeed at Performers Forum on Sunday 12/4 capping it off. You can read really nice reviews of Perfect Lives Manhattan and That Morning Thing from the NYTimes if you missed those shows. Or you can read each project's blog for more details. We'll have full video of Perfect Lives Manhattan soon, but in the mean time, enjoy this section of Episode 4: The Bar

Varispeed is plotting our next move from here, but in the mean time Performers Forum & its other half Sweat Lodge are picking up steam. Sweat Lodge presents a night of jawing about music tomorrow at 8 PM and comes back with a full evening of our original music on Saturday 12/17. Performers Forum's keeping it coming every month.

Meanwhile, believe the rumors: a second Why Lie? (Aliza Simons & Dave Ruder) record is in the works, and WHY LIE? the 100-pieces that have been idle for a few months, are on their way back after a successful airing at the last PPL conference. So that's what's next. Mean time, I'm making golden beet bread.

10/10/11, 10:27 PM.

Full speed ahead. A classic Sweat Lodge program happened this past Saturday, documentation soon. More in the future, to be learned about here.

At the moment, I need your help. For the upcoming Perfect Lives Manhattan, we are currently don't have the funds for documentation. If you're reading this, you'll no doubt enjoy being able to watch & listen to this performance, which I swear will be fabulously executed on 11/6/11 in Lower Manhattan. To make the documentation happen on this very website, please consider kicking in a couple of bucks to our campaign over here. You investment will be paid back many times over, I assure you. If you're not in a position to help out, that's great, but please come, it's free! Here's more on that subject:

Also, if you're curious about the other Ashley opera I'm working on, That Morning Thing, there's lots of thoughts & details here.

Wednesday, September 21st 2011. 9:05 PM.

What's the scoop? Well, engagement with activity. I just made a remix of something for Paul's piece at the third Sweat Lodge concert, Octber 8th at Exapno (it's an evening of amateur choral music I put together). I'm working on some further thoughts on Perfect Lives Manhattan at this wonderful blog. I'm thinking about That Morning Thing at the Kitchen in November. I'm pondering the future of the Flowering Inconsistencies series. I'm digesting some top notch homemade hummus (sans garlic, as always). I might turn on the radio for a late-season Mets game.

That seems like the news that's fit for printing. Enjoy!
